Hotel Review: The Westin Kuala Lumpur

The Westin Kuala Lumpur has one of the best locations in the city, when it comes to picking a hotel with access to tourist attractions, shopping malls and night life. Located opposite Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and adjacent to Starhill Gallery, getting around the Golden Triangle is convenient.

Jien and I recently checked out their newly refurbished Executive Room over a weekend stay, where we enjoyed their latest F&B offerings, popular Sunday brunch and their signature Westin Heavenly Bed. Our weekend at The Westin Kuala Lumpur began with dim sum brunch at Five Sen5es, where guests can opt to go for Chef Tan’s signature Cantonese dishes or dainty handmade dim sum.

We spent most of our time inside the hotel – where the WestinWORKOUT Gym and Splash Pool are located. For parents with young children, there’s the Westin Kids Club where kids can spend their time playing with the many toys and facilities available (supervised), for a small fee.

Afternoon Tea set

Afternoon tea (RM98 nett per set for 2) at The Living Room is available from Monday to Friday between 2pm till 5pm. While I was fortunate to be given a sneak preview during the weekend of my stay, I do feel this is more of a weekend indulgence rather than a weekday treat. You get an assortment of sandwiches, scones, tarts, cookies and macarons; with a selection of Jing Tea to choose from.

With Pavilion Kuala Lumpur just across the road, guests can walk across for plenty of shopping, like we did. Come evening, we enjoyed ourselves at the Westin Executive Lounge, available to those who opt for the executive rooms with lounge access.

The turndown service comes with some camomile Jing Tea to soothe one’s senses in time for bed. And as expected of the Westin Heavenly Bed, we slept well on both nights. I can’t quite point out why, but we’ve always had a good night’s rest when we sleep on the Heavenly Bed.

The mushroom risotto is really tasty!

It’s been more than a year since I last had the Bubbalicious Brunch at Prego and I have to say, the experience is better. The barbecue section is no longer there, replaced with all-you-can-eat antipasto, mains and meats. This I feel, was more enjoyable as the food is cooked ala minute.

The seafood bisque and mushroom risotto were particularly tasty – I ordered seconds. On top of the large buffet selection of Italian delights, there was also fresh-from-the-oven pizzas, piping hot pasta dishes and grilled meats that is served as a pass-around.

Good brunch selection

For RM188nett per pax (without alcohol), it may seem on the high side but the selection and quality make up for it. One of the more memorable Sunday brunches in the city, I feel.

Quick breakfast at the club lounge, before checking out and heading back home.

Most of our weekend was spent inside the hotel, enjoying the room and the facilities available. And come Monday morning, we checked out after an early breakfast, refreshed and ready to take on the week. Thank you, The Westin Kuala Lumpur, for letting us experience your hospitality!
